Taoufiq Izeddiou’s dance is carnal and visceral, marked by his Gnawan origins, the North African people which descended from black slaves. Its strength is a roar « driven by a need to find light ». Passionate about architecture and boxing, the artist wanted to delve into a divine quest, appealing to his fascination for the rites and the power of transe. In this solo, liveliness and joy also question taboos, explore the inherent complexity of any spiritual quest. The body exults, bringing the audience along with him, even though the Moroccan choreographer, who is constantly on alert, reminds us that his quest for breath and balance can collapse at any time, with the burden of fundamentalisms.
